Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”
Lots of people want to do “good works” or, as they called them when speaking to Jesus, “the works of God.” There is, according to Jesus, only one work of God that men can do: believing in Christ.
The more I learn, the more I am convinced that believing in Christ; trusting in the work of Jesus and His promise that the Holy Spirit will be the One Who conforms be to the image to Christ is difficult work. I do not trust easily or often and to continuously place my trust in God — Who seldom, if ever, explains Himself and only seldom lets me in on what He is planning to do — is difficult. Not impossible, but difficult.
Let me work the work of God and trust in Christ today. Nothing more. Nothing less. God has promised that He will do the rest of what needs doing in me and through me. I need only believe Him and trust Him enough to do as He bids.
