For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
These posts originated as a SOAP journal — Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. have drifted away from that format over time. This morning, I intend to return to that format.
The verse tells me something that is both obvious and comforting: Jesus was tempted and, because He was tempted and did not succumb, He is able to help me when I am tempted. That is all. But that all brings me great comfort. Jesus is able to help me resist temptation — He had to do it, Himself — and this means that He knows how difficult it is to resist and how exhausting the whole ordeal can be for particularly strong temptations.
And that is the application: that I can rely on Jesus’ help when temptations come along.
Jesus, please make me aware of Your presence when I am tempted. This verse tells me that You are able to come to my aid when I am tempted and I desperately need help to resist the temptations that come my way.
